Concurrent Enrollment

Get a Head Start on College with Hennepin Tech in the High Schools

Imagine earning college credits while still in high school—without ever leaving your classroom. With Hennepin Tech in the High Schools, you can take college-level courses at your local high school and earn both high school and college credits at the same time. Taught by your high school teachers who meet the required credentials, these courses give you a real taste of college life without the extra cost.

Why Choose Concurrent Enrollment?

Taking Concurrent Enrollment courses offers several benefits over other programs like AP or Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO). Here's why it’s a smart choice:

  • Save money on college courses – Classes are free for participating high school students.
  • Earn college credit – Get a head start on your degree and possibly finish college faster.
  • Experience college expectations – Learn what college-level coursework feels like, so you’re ready for the real thing.
  • Access college resources – Enjoy tools and support from Hennepin Tech while still in high school.
  • Build your college transcript early – Unlike AP courses, these classes result in actual college grades on your transcript, showing your commitment to future university admissions.

How Does Concurrent Enrollment Compare to PSEO?

While Concurrent Enrollment lets you take college courses at your high school, PSEO gives you the chance to attend classes directly on Hennepin Tech campuses. Both programs are excellent ways to earn college credit for high school students in Minnesota, but each offers different experiences. 1. Explore local course offerings

Click the name of your high school below to see which courses are available near you.

2. Review the Concurrent Enrollment application process

The application process for concurrent enrollment is different than PSEO and other application processes. You will apply for concurrent enrollment during an orientation session at your local high school.

3. Know your rights and responsibilities

Concurrent enrollment students are expected to follow the same academic expectations and conduct guidelines as other Hennepin Tech students. Download and review the Hennepin Tech Student Handbook (PDF) and the Student Code of Conduct (PDF)

4. Check placement requirements

If your chosen course has a prerequisite, you may qualify with your accumulative grade point average (GPA). Otherwise, submit qualifying ACT, SAT, MCA or Accuplacer test results. Contact your guidance counselor or the Concurrent Enrollment Coordinator for details.

5. Submit your required paperwork

Work with your high school teacher and counselor to complete the required paperwork.

6. Attend an orientation session

A Hennepin Tech representative will come to your high school to provide the orientation.
