Program Description

Are you ready to turn up the heat on a career in the culinary arts? At Hennepin Tech, our Culinary Arts program offers comprehensive chef training courses that provide you with the skills and knowledge to succeed in the culinary world.

With hands-on training and expert instructors, you'll gain practical experience in a real kitchen environment. Our chef training courses cover important topics such as food safety and sanitation, knife skills, ice carving, and international cuisine.

Learn the basics needed to become a professional chef in our professional kitchens and gourmet dining room. As part of the program, students train to be a part of a gourmet restaurant. Students experience all stations within the food service industry, including the "front of the house" in Hennepin Tech's on-campus gourmet dining room.

By enrolling in our Culinary Arts program, you'll earn a culinary degree recognized by industry leaders. Our curriculum focuses on providing high-quality culinary arts education to prepare you for a successful career.

Employment may be found in hotels, restaurants, clubs, health care facilities, schools, resorts and many other food related operations. Depending on qualifications and experience numerous positions are available to graduates such as:

  • restaurant cooks
  • banquet cooks
  • bakers
  • assistant pastry chefs
  • pantry personnel
  • kitchen managers
  • food salespersons
  • personal chefs
  • purchasing clerks
  • caterers
  • entry-level chef/managers

Starting, buying, or managing a culinary business is also a solid career option for students. In recent years, the allure of entrepreneurship has increased in the food industry, particularly in the food truck sector.

Students who complete the Culinary Arts program are eligible to pursue American Culinary Federation certification.
